Q: WHERE DO DONATIONS GO? WHAT DOES TERP THON RAISE MONEY FOR?

A: Terp Thon raises money for Children's National Hospital, the premier provider of pediatric services in the Washington, D.C., metro area. In fact, Children’s National Hospital is ranked as one of the nation’s top six children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, has the #1 rated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the country and is Magnet®-designated for excellence in nursing. All donations go directly to the hospital and can go towards many expenses not covered by insurance such as Art and Music Therapy, Child Life Specialists, diapers, and wheelchairs. Donations can also provide support services and helps hospitals and other health care facilities purchase important equipment like emergency pediatric resuscitation carts and specialized hearing equipment. Currently, donations are going directly to Children's National Hospital's COVID-19 Emergency Action Fund.

Q: WHAT IS DANCE MARATHON?

A: Dance Marathon is Terp Thon's largest event of the year and is a tradition at the University of Maryland! Our Dance Marathon is held annually in March, where we invite our campus, surrounding community, Miracle Families, Hospital Staff, Sponsors and Supporters to come together and celebrate in a 12 hour long event that showcases our cause and creates new connections!

Q: WHERE DO I REGISTER FOR DANCE MARATHON?

A: You can register at this link. Registration is always open until the day of our Dance Marathon and we encourage you to register now!

Q: HOW IS TERP THON WORKING ON IMPROVING DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION?

A: Starting in the summer of 2020, Terp Thon introduced a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force open for individuals to join. Representatives from each committee will serve on this Task Force and open forums will be held to listen and understand ways that Terp Thon can improve and build. This Task Force is working on providing our community with necessary resources, extending support out to as many groups and organizations as possible, and making sure that all voices are heard and amplified so that everyone feels welcome and comfortable.

Q: DO I HAVE TO BE A PART OF TERP THON'S PLANNING TEAM (TTPT) TO COME TO EVENTS?

A: Nope, everyone is welcome to come to our events!

Q: HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED IN TERP THON?

A: During our 2019-2020 school year, we had over 2,100 registered participants, including our amazing Terp Thon Alumni Network and our Internal Team (TTPT) of around 250 students! Our Executive Board and Internal Team is in charge of planning each event, organizing funds and campaigns, creating visuals, working with different members of our community and so much more!

Q: WHAT KIND OF EVENTS DOES TERP THON HOST?

A: The largest event we hold is our annual Dance Marathon where our team and community unite together to celebrate and spread awareness for the past and present patients and families at Children's National Hospital! Throughout the rest of the school year, we hold many other events such as 5ks, a Day of Miracles, game nights, and so much more!

Q: IF MY HIGH SCHOOL WANTS TO GET INVOLVED, WHO CAN I CONTACT?
